Scales are the numbers along the axis

These should be at even intervals, no jumping random numbers each time!!

(i.e.    2,4,6,8    or    5,10,15    or    .5, 1,1.5, 2)

Scales should also be appropriate for the data that you have.

Example: If I am measuring peoples heights, the tallest man on record is about 7ft 10in, would need to go no higher than 8 feet (so creating a scale with 20 as the highest would not make sense).  Intervals of 1 foot would not make sense because we have lots of in between heights so a 1in interval would be better.
