Module 1: Overview and To Do List

Overview

In beginning to talk about poetry, we'll first discuss Imagery, Symbolism and Allusion as they help us understand an author's meaning. Your first poems will heavily rely on these to help inform an audience of your own artistic voice and intent!

To Do List

In order to successfully complete Module 1, please do the following:

  1. Review: poems in the poetry packet in the first module ("All of ye poetry").
  2. Read: poems of any genre you like to get ideas for your own writing.
  3. Discuss: what is poetry? Add to the discussion board when you have a solid idea.
  4. Create: Work individually to create a sample of your own poems. Due in two weeks will be your 4 poems on symbols, and we'll have class time to work on Found or Blackout Poems, before we do Scrambled poems just after. Much of this will be begun in class, and finished at home, due to time constraints.
