Vocabulary so far: Imagery, symbol, allusion, tone, nuance, foreshadowing, simile, metaphor, meter, rhyme scheme
Remember, these vocabulary terms are not going to be quizzes by an official quiz, and also that they are not words that *must* exist in all writing! They're just like tools in a tool-chest: useful sometimes (and some more than others), and they're masterfully-used by the best authors.
We started with:
Imagery, Symbol,Allusion.
In Module 2 we looked at Tone and elements of style, involving Nuance, and a brief look at Onomatopoeia.
Now, we're adding Stanza, Meter, Rhyme Scheme (and the ways Scansion helps us see word Emphasis), as well as Foreshadowing, Simile and Metaphor.
This will comprise most of the vocabulary you should be familiar with in poetry, because as you spot their use in poems, you'll be able to better understand how poetry as an art-form functions! If you get confused, there are lots of working definitions online, and we'll be practicing in-school to identify these words so you should never feel like they are alien (I hope).
