Note on short story for this term:

Remember, as always, short stories have no set page limit. Many might average to about 6 pages, but if you can resolve external and internal conflicts faster (or slower) you're just fine! The point is to submit a completed story, not a set of pages based on an arbitrary number.

As always, the topic is completely open, but be aware that we will be workshopping these (anonymously), so keep it appropriate to school.

If stuck, write to a theme or lesson. Explore a genre (horror, realism, magical realism, etc.). Write specifically about a character you can see clearly in your mind's eye. Begin with conflict or dialogue. Or, if all else fails, set a timer for 5-30 minutes and force yourself to write or type for that length and see what comes out: maybe a really cool image, or idea, or conflict, and then write to that!

Final note: this is officially story #2 for this semester, but story #1 for this term. If you wrote a story back in October, great! You were required to do that. This is a story for this term, so that in total you'll have at least two short stories, a poem or two, and eventually, an essay also for your portfolio.
