At School Work for the week ending 12-11-20
Daily Write: What changed from the new thing you noticed last week? Describe it within about 10 minutes total, as honestly and factually as you can. If you lost your last write, begin by quickly summarizing what you remembered about it first, before adding-to this. (Make sure you save these: anything could be fodder for your first essay!)
Discuss: How did "The Kingfish" and "On Books" work, or not, for you?
Reading: "What we Remember."
-This is an essay from a woman in mid-life. For you, how does it make you think, especially in light of your assignment this week, “The Untold Story?”
Writing: instead of doing a lot of writing today, since you have a lot of assignments coming up, I want to allow you some time to work ahead on major projects after you think about nonfiction as a genre: how is it different than fiction? How does it give us meaning, when done well, and how, if done poorly, is it just boring recitation of memory and fact? What would YOU like to tell us that could become your story that we could understand and apply to our own lives?
Homework: finish any essays you've not completed in class, and turn in the 1-page write for "The Untold Story" from a relative.
Your first essay will be due soon, before the winter break, and your portfolio of 3 revised pieces (including a poem) is due shortly after that. Be aware of these looming deadlines, particularly if you have yet to turn in your term 2 fiction story, which is now two weeks past-due.
