What We’re Learning This Week

This week in language arts we’ll be writing an essay on Summer of the Mariposas and the Hero's Journey.

In math we'll be working with positive and negative numbers, including graphing on the coordinate plane.

In social studies, we will be finishing up our Middle Ages unit learning about The Crusades and having a Medieval Feast!

And in science we'll be learning about food webs.

Medieval Feast

Our Medieval Feast will be this Thursday.  This is another "dress up" event for our sixth graders.  We would like to encourage them to dress medieval!  It makes the feast more fun.  Ask your student what role they have chosen for the feast. Here is a video for a quick and easy medieval costume: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaH6v70h3ys&t=1s Links to an external site.
Students will certainly get enough to eat at the feast (bread, soup, salad, chicken, crackers, fruit, cheese, and sherbet) but are still welcome to bring or buy a regular lunch that day.RISE Testing Dates

Here are the dates/times we will be taking our end-of-year RISE tests.  Students always do much better when they take the test with their classmates rather than having to do make up tests later.  Please make every effort to have your student here at school.  We will be testing from 9:00-10:30 on the following dates:

Monday, April 21 and Tuesday, April 22  ELA Test

Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24 Science Test

Monday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 29 Math Test

Learning to Breathe

Here's information from our L2B Instructor:

Dear Parent,
Last week we met for our eighth Learning to Breathe class.
We continued to explore the theme presented last week:
A-Attention: Paying attention to body sensations, thoughts, and emotions is good stress reduction
If you haven’t yet become familiar with the term the Triangle of Awareness, check out the A section of the parent handbook where you will find more information about how we are weaving together the skills of paying attention to the body, thoughts, and emotions (the Triangle of Awareness) to help us in managing and reducing stress. You’ll find supportive mindful movement practice in the L2B app, and more ideas for practicing in creative ways in the parent handbook.
