Mrs. Hall's Happenings
What We’re Learning This Week
This week in language arts we will be starting a unit on the Titanic that includes a variety of articles and primary source documents. At home this month, students will be reading Where the Red Fern Grows. This is always a favorite of my sixth graders. Students need to write a summary of each chapter in their summary booklet. Completed summary booklets will be required for watching the movie in class next month. Since students will be reading an assigned book this month, there will not be an extra book report form to fill out for April.
Our new unit in math will be on data and graphs.
In social studies, we will do a Document-Based Question on the spread of Islam.
And in science we'll be learning about food webs.
Boxes
I am in need of 2 sizes of boxes. We need medium sized boxes for Dig-It (between a shoebox and a moving box). The students build a "temple" during the Egypt scene, and my boxes were accidentally thrown away when the storage rooms were cleaned out last summer. Also, I need larger packing boxes to use in packing up the classroom. The district has dropped off 5 boxes per classroom which is about the funniest thing to have happened all year. Have you seen a typical teacher's classroom??? Please send any extra boxes you have to school. I would really appreciate it!
Clark Planetarium Field Trip
We will be going to the Clark Planetarium on Thursday, April 17. Students are bringing home a permission slip today. As part of our visit, students can order popcorn and a drink for the IMAX movie. It is $3 a person and needs to be preordered (the concession stand won't be taking orders--just filling our preorders). Please just attached the $3 to the permission slip. If you would like to donate extra for students who cannot pay and for our end-of-year activites, I would greatly appreciate it. Please just attach your donation to the form.
RISE Testing DatesHere are the dates/times we will be taking our end-of-year RISE tests. Students always do much better when they take the test with their classmates rather than having to do make up tests later. Please make every effort to have your student here at school. We will be testing from 9:00-10:30 on the following dates:
Monday, April 21 and Tuesday, April 22 ELA Test
Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24 Science Test
Monday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 29 Math Test
Dig-It!
We had so many amazing students try out for speaking parts; it was really difficult for us to make decisions about parts. Well done, everyone! Students have been assigned a speaking role, dancing part, or are in the general cast. We will start rehearsals next week during prep times. I will post a schedule on my door each week.
