About Mrs. Shalvis
I was born and raised in Utah, and I was very lucky to grow up in a happy and loving home. My family is very unique and I love it! This is my parents' 2nd marriage, so it became a 'mine, yours, ours, and theirs' situation. To make things fun (and a little complicated), I have one half brother, 2 adopted brothers (one is Native American and the other is Mexican), 2 full-blood brothers, and one angel half brother who died at birth; 2 half sisters, one angel half sister who died at birth, and one angel half sister who died December of 2020. Although my family is a big mix, they are all fully my siblings and I love them! I am the youngest of them all, so I have a HUGE family! Beyond siblings, I have 27 nieces and nephews (2 of them were adopted :) ), and 24 great nieces and nephews. I have always loved having a large family!
I moved to Bountiful in August of 2015 because I got my first teaching job! Soon after, I met my husband Rian, and we got married in November of 2016. We have a cute little house that we have been remodeling. Our next project is making our yard more enjoyable. :)
We love animals and look forward to when we can live on a ranch! We used to have a lot of chickens, one duck, and 2 rabbits. We also used to have turkeys...they made a very yummy Thanksgiving dinner! Our chickens, ducks, and rabbits were strictly pets. We enjoyed watching our animals and all the crazy things they did. We ended up giving them away a few years ago to simplify our life. However, this last spring we decided to get more. Right now we have 6 hens, and 3 roosters!
We don't have any children yet, but are looking forward to adopting! We both have family who were adopted, so it is a huge part of our lives. We got our license to foster and have had the cutest boy in our home during the summer! We don't know how long we will have him, but we are soaking up our time!
We love to travel! Our goal is to travel the world! My dream vacation is to go to Italy and Greece, and Rian's is to go to Japan. Together we have visited a few states, the Western Caribbean, and a few places in Mexico. This year, I hoping to go to Mexico with some friends!! A few of our favorite things to do when traveling are: hiking, finding hidden gems, swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, going on adventures, and relaxing on beaches. Rian also likes to spearfish anywhere he can! Our summer was filled with going to as many lakes as possible and paddle boarding; and enjoying our new Sea Doos!
I always loved school! I had a lot of favorite years, but one of them was actually my 5th grade year. My teacher would always tell stories, which is something I like to do as well. I went to elementary school in a little town called Milford, UT. When I was 13, we moved to Nephi, UT where I attended Jr. High and High School. I went to Snow College to get my Associate's degree, and Utah State University to get my Bachelor's in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Education has always been a big part of my life, but I'm realizing it's not always about how much schooling you get through. For me, it's about loving to learn and pushing yourself to accomplish the things you want to in life.
I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little child, and I am so excited to have fulfilled that dream! I hope I can instill a love of learning in your child!
Colors-I love all the colors; especially darker and brighter shades
Season-Summer and Fall
Candy-I love chocolate as long as it has something with it; peanut butter, caramel, coconut, mint, etc.
Snacks-anything salt & vinegar flavored, popcorn, Gardetto's, fruit (my favorite is mango!), chips & salsa, pretty much any delicious snack! :)
Drink-Dr. Pepper, Water
Book-It is too hard for me to pick a favorite! In general, I like books that have a lasting impact on you, books that make you think about yourself, books with a good storyline, and books that help you improve yourself. I always read at least 20 minutes a day just like I ask my students to do.
Subject-Math!! I hope to help kids go from disliking/hating math to at least liking math! I really do enjoy teaching all subjects, though.
Activity-Camping, Hiking, Swimming, Paddle Boarding, Sea Dooing, Kayaking, 4-Wheeling, Snorkeling, Exercising, Reading, Watching TV :), being with family
