What is multiplication?

To this point we have discussed multiplication 2 ways.  Multiplication as equal groups and multiplication as repeated addition.  

4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 24  which is the same as $6\times4=24$.

What is a factor? 

In a multiplication equation factors are the numbers multiplied together.

$6\times4=24$ in this equation 6 and 4 are the factors.  6 and 4 are being multiplied together.

What is a product?

The product is the answer to a multiplication problem.

$6\times4=24$ in this equation 24 is the product.  24 is the answer to a multiplication problem.

What does twice mean?

Is twice the same as double?

If you do something twice you have done it 2 times.

If you double a number, then you have 2 times the number.

Let's look at some examples:

Twice 7, means 2 times 7 which is 14.

Double 7, means 2 times 7 which is 14.

Twice a number is the same as double a number.

For each of the numbers  in the table, identify what is double that number or 2 times the number.
