Activity 5 - Apply: Mapping North America
Learning Objective: I will be able to add symbols to a map key and locate and label natural and cultural features on a map.
- In previous lessons, you've learned map skills and about natural and cultural features.
- Today, you are going to use what you have learned to label natural and cultural features on a map of North America in a Nearpod lesson using tools found on Draw It slides.
- If needed, Watch the video to learn how to use the tools to draw and label the map.
Instructions:
In the Nearpod (link found at bottom of this page), you will Label the following features on the map below. Use the colored map at the top corner of each nearpod page to help you. You can also use the map on this page.
In the nearpod you will do the following:
Natural Features
Label the following natural features on the map below. Use the colored map to help you.
- Oceans:
- Arctic Ocean
- Atlantic Ocean
- Pacific Ocean
- River:
- Trace and label the Mississippi River.
- Mountains:
- Add ^^^ to the map key next to the word mountains.
- Add ^^^ to the map to show where the Rocky Mountains are.
- Label the Rocky Mountains.
Cultural Features
- Label the following cultural features on the map below. Use the colored map to help you.
- Countries:
- Canada
- United States
- Mexico
- Cuba
- Guatemala
- Find the words Country capital in the map key.
- Next to Country capital draw a star with a circle around it
- On the map, add the Country capital symbol (star with a circle around it) to show each of the capitals below.
- Ottawa
- Washington, D.C.
- Mexico City
- Look at the map key again. Find the word city.
- Draw the following symbol next to the word City. •
- On the map, add the city symbol and a city name to show one other city in the United States, in Canada, and in Mexico.
