Class Learning Objectives

The following priority standards will be covered throughout the course of the school year.

  • Priority Standard #1: Operations with Rational Numbers
    • Apply previous understanding of operations with rational numbers to include integers and negative rational numbers
  • Priority Standard #2: Proportional Reasoning
    • Understand and apply proportional reasoning. Compute unit rates, recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities using multiple representations, use proportional relationships to solve multi-step and percent problems, and solve problems using scale drawings of geometric figures.
  • Priority Standard #3: Simplify Expressions and Solve Equations
    • Simplify expressions and solve equations. Apply properties of operations to factor, expand, and convert between forms of an expression. Assess reasonableness of solutions. Use variables to represent quantities to construct and solve real-world equations and inequalities. For example: 𝑝π‘₯+π‘ž<π‘Ÿ.
  • Priority Standard #4: Represent and Analyze Relationships
    • Solve problems using numerical and algebraic equations, draw inferences about two populations, and investigate probability models.

image003.pngCurriculum Schedule

We will primarily be using the Open Up Resources curriculum for 7th grade.

The following schedule shows what topics we will be covering each term and what standards will be covering during the year. Some topics may spill over into another term depending on how quickly students are learning the content. Canvas will always show the most up to date information, so please check it often.

Term 1

Unit 1: Scale Drawings

Unit 2: Introducing Proportional Relationships

Term 2

Unit 3: Rational Number Arithmetic

Unit 4: Expressions, Equations, & Inequalities

Term 3

Unit 5: Measuring Circles

Unit 6: Proportional Relationships & Percentages

Term 4

Unit 7: Angles, Triangles, & Prisms

Unit 8: Probability & Sampling

Class Expectations & Grading

image.pngStudents are assessed in 3 different categories: Tests/Final Projects, Quizzes, and Assignments/Discussions. All three areas allow students to show mastery and proficiency of a subject through real world problems and projects that provide high level thinking and mastery.

Student grades will be updated in MyDSD/Encore continuously through Canvas. Only the names and scores for each assignment, quiz, and test will show up in myDSD. If you need more info about an assignment, please go to Canvas.

Assignments will be given each day in class either on paper or digitally through Canvas. All assignments (whether on paper or digital) will be graded on Canvas. All assignments can be redone through Canvas until the end of each term.

Quizzes will be given periodically throughout each unit during class on Canvas. They can be redone through test corrections and students will be able to earn half of their points back towards their final score.

End-of-Unit Tests will be given at the end of each unit. If you are absent on the day of the test, you will need to make arrangements to take it within one week of that day with your teacher. Students must follow these rules in order to retake a test. To Retake β€“ test corrections must be completed on the first test in Canvas and all assignments must be completed & turned in through Canvas.

Citizenship will be assessed during each unit of study. Students will be required to fill out a self-reflection for each unit in Canvas to determine their citizenship. The teacher will have the ultimate say on what your citizenship grade will be, but they will take your self-reflection into consideration. This grade will be tracked in Canvas & myDSD but will not count against your academic grade.

image007.pngHonors Designation

Students must complete two honors projects for each term to receive an Honors designation at the end of the year. These projects can be found, and must be completed and submitted, on Canvas. Your teacher will grade each project once you have turned in your physical copy of our your project and will let you know if revisions must be done before you are given credit for the project. Make sure you read the directions carefully on each project before you ask your teacher for help. Your project must be completed two weeks before the end of the term to allow your teacher time to grade your work and let you fix it. The final date for revised projects to be turned in is the last day of each term.

Citizenship Policy

H – Honors – Outstanding behavior and work ethic, no unexcused absences or tardies

G – Good – Great behavior and work ethic, only 1 tardy and/or 1 unexcused absence

S – Satisfactory – Good behavior and work ethic, only 2 tardies and/or 1 unexcused absence

N – Needs Improvement – Slight misconduct, 3 tardies and/or 2 unexcused absences

U – Unsatisfactory – Gross misconduct, cheating/truancy, 4 tardies and/or 3 unexcused absences

image009.pngCheating Policy

CHEATING INCLUDES TALKING DURING A TEST, COPYING AN ASSIGNMENT FROM ANOTHER STUDENT, OR GETTING ANSWERS FOR TESTS/QUIZZES FROM ANY OUTSIDE SOURCE (INCLUDING A NEIGHBOR’S TEST, TEXT MESSAGES, SNAPCHAT, GOOGLE, UNAUTHORIZED NOTES OR WEBSITES, PARENTS, ETC). STUDENTS WHO CHEAT WILL IMMEDIATELY RECEIVE A U IN CITIZENSHIP. ANY ASSIGNMENT, QUIZ, OR TEST INVOLVED WILL ALSO BE GIVEN A 0 UNTIL IT IS RETAKEN UNDER MS. ANDERSON’S SUPERVISION (IN PERSON OR THROUGH ZOOM). STUDENTS WHO PROVIDE ANSWERS TO THEIR PEERS ON AN ASSIGNMENT OR TEST ALSO FALL UNDER THIS CATEGORY!!!
