Learning the Tricks of the Trade in Drawing
There are many tricks that artists use to draw better. I am going to give you one today.
You will open this PowerPoint Download PowerPoint and draw the man upside down in your sketchbook or on a separate piece of paper.
Why are you drawing it upside down? Drawing upside down tricks the brain into only seeing how the lines are in relationship to each other.
How does that help? Because when you see an object right side up your brain stops looking at it and starts to draw from memory. This makes a less accurate drawing. But if you turn your drawing upside down, your brain does not know what it is looking at and so you start to draw what you see instead.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- The drawing should fill the whole page.
- Look at the tan paper as your sketchbook/paper.
- Compare how big the lines are on the tan paper of the PowerPoint to how big the lines are on your sketchbook/paper.
- It will feel weird, but stick with it and with practice you will get great results!
- Remember this is good for you!!
