Assignment #2 A-Color- Monochromatic Painting

Monochromatic painting
Materials:
- Paint or marker- white, black, and 1 Hue (color)
- if you are using marker then you will need light, dark, medium, of the one color. try and gather several shades of the same color.
- Photo printed out on paper
- Drawing paper
- brushes- small acrylic brushes (if you are painting)
- water (if you are painting)
- paper towels (if you are painting)
Step 1 - Getting your drawing ready
- Select a Black and white image with good value changes. (A good variety of light and dark colors).
- Draw around all the value changes (the dark and lights)
- If you are painting-
- Paint a big white X on the back of the paper (The canvas paper top is white and the back is cream with specks on it), from corner to corner (this will keep your painting form curling)
- Color the back of your photo image with pencil covering the whole thing.
- Place your photo image face up on the drawing paper. The pencil colored side is next to your drawing paper.
- Trace each value shape firmly with a pencil. Include those of the background. (this will transfer your image to your drawing paper)
- Trace over the lines on your drawing paper so you can see them when you are painting/coloring

BE CERTAIN THAT YOU KEEP THE IMAGE FOR REFERENCE!
Step 2- You are ready to begin painting:
- You will begin by painting/coloring the white areas and the black areas (black areas will be more interesting with a touch of your color added)
- Now mix 3 light values (white with color) and 3 dark values (black with color) of the color you chose to use.
- You may pick a single color to create the middle values.
- You will repeat by picking the next value and the next, Work from lightest areas to darkest areas.
- You must have at least 5 defined values (light, medium, and dark color) in your painting
- Be certain that you leave no gaps between the areas of paint (no paper peeking through).
- After you have finished your subject (animal, flower, bug), you will need to paint/color the background:
- Make your background contrast with your subject.
