Influential American
The Influential American Wax Museum is a large research project that we begin towards the end of 3rd Term and work on throughout 4th term. Each student will get to select an individual to research. The person they pick must meet the following criteria:
- Have already died
- Been an American citizen
- Have made a positive contribution to society.
Students will be responsible for completing several different components for the project. Most of these assignments can be worked on and completed during class time, but there will be times when students will be asked to complete some work at home. Students will complete the following component assignments:
- Notes on the individual
- Time Magazine Cover of the individual
- A report on the individual between 600 - 800 words in length.
- A rhyming monologue poem between 100-200 words in length. (This needs to be memorized)
This is the culminating activity which will draw from the students’ research papers. Each student will dress as the famous person they have studied at the height of their fame/career. The following items are required for the Wax Museum
- One hand prop to hold while reciting monologue. This should be related to the individual they researched.
- Two table props to display. These should also relate to the individual they researched.
- Costume depicting your subject when they were most famous
- Memorized Monologue
- A “button” of some kind for visitors to the wax museum to push when they visit you
Costumes should be as complete as possible-from shoes to headwear. Most people are able to borrow or find items at thrift stores to complete their costumes.
Students will make a “button” at home that can be pushed at the wax museum to bring them to life. Be creative and use various materials to create a unique button. The button can make noises, as long as they are not so loud that they distract from other presentations.
