Why I Teach I am passionate about teaching Medical Anatomy and Physiology because our future health professionals must gain expert knowledge of anatomy and physiology. The third leading cause of death in the United States is our medical system, causing over 250,000 deaths per year as reported in 2016 by Johns Hopkins University Links to an external site. . Additionally, the FDA reported that in 2014, 123,927 people died from adverse reactions to pharmaceutical products, with another 807,270 being seriously injured. The number of adverse reactions has more than tripled since 2006. It is absolutely imperative that our future practitioners and researchers develop a deep understanding of human anatomy and physiology so that they can reverse this trend, save more lives, injure fewer people, and help patients to obtain the quality of life they are seeking.

Teaching Philosophy
I understand that the process of learning is a little different for everyone. How students learn is influenced by their culture, their family, their experiences, their genetics, their environment at home, their environment at school, their previous friends, their current friends, and their lifestyle including diet, exercise, and sleep habits. When students are struggling to learn or failing to demonstrate learning, I understand that if I knew why, if I really knew everything about their lives, I would have absolute compassion for them. Therefore, my philosophy is to teach with compassion. As much as possible, I try to increase students’ motivation and opportunities for success and decrease the effects of stress inherent in our education system.
Education
I earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and a doctorate degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. I have taken many additional classes in science and education from Weber State University, where I earned my teaching credential. I also have twelve years of clinical experience as a chiropractic physician which has given me a practical education beyond my academic education.
Teaching Experience
From 2013 to 2016, I taught science at West Lake Junior High School, which was an excellent experience. I am ecstatic to be starting my 8th year at Clearfield High School.
Interests and Hobbies
I love learning and sharing ideas. Great conversations are near the top of my list of life favorites, perhaps equal to moments of exquisite solitude, well above excellent meals and beautiful music which are also on the list. I am very interested in topics related to human health and biological anthropology. I also love to create and build, sometimes in my mind alone, other times with various physical media. I love to travel with or simply be at home with my family. I enjoy skiing and camping and immersing myself in the beauty of nature and movement.
Current Assignments
I currently teach Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II which are concurrent enrollment (CE) courses through Weber State University, as well as Medical Anatomy and Physiology which includes the WSU CE classes, Medical Terminology and Case Studies in Health Science. I also advise HOSA Future Health Professionals.
