Class Disclosure

2023-2024

I want your child to have a fun and memorable 2nd grade year of learning. I care about the wellbeing of your child, so please let me know as soon as possible if there is anything that I can do to help your child.

Homework

Homework is due on Friday and new homework is sent home on Friday.

Reading Log: Your child should read for at least 20 minutes five days a week. I would like for your child to develop a habit of reading every day, so even if your child reads for only a few minutes, please record that amount of time.

Spelling and Vocabulary Words: A list of spelling and vocabulary words will be sent home in your child's homework folder. I will teach these words during the week and tests will be given on Friday.

Discipline:

At the beginning of the school year, our class will write a few goals. We will review these goals and evaluate our progress during our daily morning circle time.

Class Money

  • Plastic coins are given as a reward for good behavior.
  • Coins can also be taken away when a child does not change their behavior after they have been warned that they have made a bad choice.
  • At the end of each month, we will have a class store where students will be able to use their money to purchase rewards.

I will let you know if your child has a reoccurring problem in the classroom and we will work together to find a solution! Please don’t hesitate to let me know if your child is having any type of problem in the classroom.

Phones/Watches:

I realize that some students may have phones or watches that you use to communicate with your child.  Phones need to be silenced and kept in a backpack during the school day. Watches can be worn, but they need to be turned off during the school day. Please do not try to communicate with your child during the school day. If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, then please call the office and they will deliver the message to me.

Birthdays:

We will celebrate your child’s birthday on their birthday. If we are not at school that day, then I will let you know what school day we will celebrate their birthday on. We will celebrate summer birthdays sometime during the year. If you want to send treats, please bring enough treats for each student in our entire class. Please only send store bought treats.

Star Student:

During the year, each child will be spotlighted on their birthday on our Star Student bulletin board. I will send a poster and a star student paper home with your child a week before their scheduled week. Please help your child prepare the poster and fill out the star student paper. Your child will present their poster and read their star student paper to the class. I will send their poster home at the end of the week.

Communication:

I will post assignments on my Canvas page. I mostly communicate by email. Please let me know if you haven't received any emails from me so I can make sure that I have your correct email. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me by email at amoss@dsdmail.net. You can also reach me before or after school at 801-402-7327.

Thank you so much for all your help and support! It’s going to be a great year!
