Weekly Concept: Shared Experiences
Essential Question: How do people uncover what they have in common?
Objective: You will be able cite textual evidence and use evidence to help you determine theme.
Vocabulary Words: this week for each vocabulary word, we will define the word, draw a picture representation, find synonyms and use it in our own sentence. 
Today, we will review the word and define it as a class.

Essential Question- 

Shared experiences can help people find common ground, even when they think they have nothing in common. We will be reading aloud a story about a daughter who discovers that her own experiences are very similar to those of her mother.

The story we will read aloud is free-verse fiction.
Features of free-verse fiction include:
  • has a plot, a setting, and characters
  • has lines and stanzas like a poem instead of paragraphs
  • does not have rhyme or meter
  • may use an interior monologue, which is the “voice” or thoughts of the narrator, and may represent dialogue in nontraditional ways
