Welcome Letter and Supplies List

Dear Fourth Grader,

Hi! My name is Mrs. Curtis, and I am very excited to be your teacher for fourth grade! I really love fourth grade; plus, I love the students and families here at Columbia Elementary.

I always wanted to be a teacher, ever since I was in first grade, and I was able to attend the first-grade class where my grandma was the teacher. From then on, I always played school with my siblings and cousins whenever we went to her house. I did not become a teacher until after my kids were almost all grown, but I never forgot my dream. Now, here I am at the best school ever. 😊

I am married to a retired teacher from Layton High, Mr. Curtis, and we have five adult kids, a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, two adorable granddaughters, ages five and one and a grandson on the way. We love to go hiking, camping, and traveling as a family. We enjoy having dinner together on Sundays and playing games afterwards. My favorite things to do are read, do genealogy, learn about history, organize stuff, and do anything with my family. I love babies, the color purple, dogs, popcorn, peanut m&ms and all kinds of music, movies, and books.

We are going to learn so many new and exciting things this year. We learn all about our great state of Utah, its history, and the beautiful places to visit. We will get to go on some fun field trips and have some awesome learning activities. We will also work really hard in math, science, and reading! It is going to be an amazing year!

Back-to-School Night is on August 13th at 6:00 pm. The first day of school is August 15th, and it will be an early-out day. You may want to bring a book to read and a water bottle that day. I am so excited to meet you!  See you soon!

With Love,

Mrs. Curtis

Dear Parents:

The school is again asking for a one-time $20 donation for each child to help with expenses, rather than asking for several smaller donations throughout the year. The money will be used for our field trips and activities. More information will be given about dates and locations of the field trips and activities when these details are finalized.

Thanks so much for your support,

The Fourth-grade Team
