About Me

Education

My educational background in Davis School District started when I attended Farmington Junior High and Davis High School as a student. I went on to study architectural and mechanical drafting and design at Weber State University. After that I decided to study something that is dear to me, and moved to Phoenix, AZ to study media arts and animation. I learned a lot of fun things about 3D animation. I moved back to Utah where I decided to study something else that has always interested me, and that led me to my master's degree in math education.

About Me

I moved back to Farmington from Phoenix in order to take care of my parents' house when they moved across the country for several years. My father broke his back while living in Virginia, so after they moved back I remained to help him with chores and maintaining the house. When I'm not at work, I spend most of my time at home to make sure I am available to help out if needed. One of my seven siblings is around to help out when I'm at work as well.

I am an avid video gamer, and spend possibly too much time on my Xbox, Playstation, Switch, or PC where I play both standard and VR games. My favorite VR games are the rhythm games such as Beat Saber, Audica, and Synth Riders. As far as the other games, I play a bit of everything, and am constantly switching back and forth from shooters to RPGs to adventure games, and even play the occasional simulation game. The game I have spent most of my time on this summer is Warframe.

I like art, both creating and viewing it. Animation is a favorite, as I mentioned before, but I also dabble in painting and drawing, both traditional and digital. I love 3D printing, laser cutting, and anything that combines technology with art to create amazing things. I enjoy reading, and will often 'unplug' in order to read a good book.

Teaching Philosophy

One of my favorite quotes about mathematics came from Galileo. To paraphrase, he called mathematics the language with which the universe is written. I firmly believe that this is the truth. When we learn a language, it becomes a matter of second nature to us. We can use that language through writing, reading, speaking without much thought. The skills of mathematics include problem-solving, number sense, spatial reasoning, algebraic thinking, and many more that we use every day throughout our lives. If we learned mathematics skills throughout school, we use these skills as second nature, not even realizing in many cases that we are using the language of mathematics. My teaching philosophy is simple; I believe that every student can learn this language, and that it will benefit every student to do so, no matter what they want to do with their life.
