Mrs. Bertoldie’s 2nd grade

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to another great year at Antelope Elementary! I am so pleased to be a part of Antelope and your child’s education. I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year working with you and your child.

You are the most important factor in your child’s education! Because of this, I firmly believe communication between home and school is vital. Please feel free to contact me at school if you ever have concerns, questions, or information about your child I need to know. The phone number at the school is 402-2100. I am available for phone calls or meetings from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning and 3:30 to 4:00 each afternoon. If you would like to leave a message or write a note, I will return your call as soon as possible. My e-mail address is dbertoldie@dsdmail.net I respond to e-mail nightly, so this is a great way to get a hold of me.

About Myself

I have been teaching 2nd grade at Antelope for 16 years. Before that I taught 5th grade in Mountain Home, Idaho. I have two children. My youngest is 19 and going to college this year in Cedar City. My oldest is 23. He is in the Army Reserves and will be going to college in Salt Lake. I have three dogs and a very supportive husband. I love kids and teaching and hope you will see this in my teaching throughout the year.

Homework

Homework will start Monday, Aug. 29th. It will go home on Mondays in the Monday folder and will be due on Fridays. It will have the same format each week to make it easier on you.

Classroom Rules

We are Respectful

  • Follow directions the first time
  • Take turns speaking

We are Responsible

  • Stay on task
  • Turn in assignments on time

We are Safe

  • Keep your body to yourself
  • Social distance, wash hands

We are Caring

  • Keep supplies and area clean
  • Be kind to others

I also use Class Dojo. Students earn points for appropriate behavior and finishing work. They can use the points for incentives such as free time, stickers, sit by a friend, and prize box. I try to keep things positive and fun. For inappropriate behaviors, students first receive a verbal warning, and I will talk to them about it. Next if the behavior is repeated, I will take a point on Class Dojo. If they lose two or more points in a week, they will lose some free time on Fridays. If behavior becomes a problem, I will contact you.

Volunteers

I appreciate parents who can sign up to volunteer. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know. All the time and energy you can donate will be very appreciated and welcomed.

Absences and Tardies

It is important that students arrive to school on time and bring a note explaining absences from school. The bell rings at 8:45 and students need to be in the classroom by 8:50 a.m.

Water Bottles

Water bottles are allowed and encouraged in my room. I prefer you send the ones with the pop-up lid or one that can remain closed so water will not leak out if tipped over. Water bottles will need to go home nightly to be washed.

I Pads

I Pad can be checked out to do online work. When checked out students will be responsible for bringing them to and from school fully charged daily.

Birthdays

We will celebrate your child’s birthday in class. Students can bring a treat, but it must be commercially wrapped. Summer birthdays will be celebrated on an unbirthday time. I will contact you about a time if this applies to your child.

Donations

Notice: "NOTICE: THE ITEMS ON THIS LIST WILL BE USED DURING THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY. THEY MAY BE BROUGHT FROM HOME ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS, OTHERWISE, THEY WILL BE FURNISHED BY THE SCHOOL."

There are a few things that would be helpful for our classroom: tissues, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, small candy like skittles, snack items like fruit snacks and gram crackers.

Monday Folders

All tests and important papers will be sent home in the Monday folder. Please send Monday folders back with homework on Fridays.

Snacks

Our lunch is at 11:20 this year. Since it is so early your child may bring a healthy snack (no candy or cookies) to eat at 1:50.

Thank you for your support!

Mrs. Bertoldie
