Supplies

This is a list of supplies needed for the year:

Personal Supplies

  • $35 class donation
  • 2 composition notebooks (college ruled)
  • Soft pencil pouch (not hard plastic)
  • Highlighter
  • Earbuds labeled with student name
  • White board eraser
  • 12 pack of colored pencils
  • Handheld pencil sharpener (non-motorized)

Shared Supplies - These supplies will be available to all students as needed

  • Expo Markers (we go through these quickly, many are needed)
  • Pencils (Ticonderoga preferred)
  • Kleenex & Clorox Wipes
  • We are always happy to accept snack donations for hungry 6th graders (animal crackers, etc.) The big tubs of animal crackers work great!

Finally, you are invited to contribute $35 to our 6th Grade fund. It is used to buy supplies for science & social studies activities, and books.  We make a concerted effort to ensure your donations are used wisely for educational purpose and to stimulate learning.

We also request $10 towards our field trip expenses.

Back-to-School Information

Communication:

  • OneNote  & Canvas has the most current information, including the daily planner message and assignment information.
  • Email is the best way to contact me.
  • Regular emails will be sent w/ issues, upcoming assignments, events.
  • Class phone not answered during class hours.

Blended/Personalized Learning:

  • We will be integrating the blended learning styleof learning in multiple subjects throughout theyear. This typeof learning is more flexible toallowstudents towork at their own pace andcreatetheir own path to theirlearninggoals.Self-regulationand attendanceis the key their success.
  • Missed discussions and collaboration areimpossible to make up but are a crucialpart ofunderstanding.

Homework:

  • The goal for 6th grade is no morethan a MAX of60 minuteshomework a night.  30 minutes nightly reading (free choice and/or assignedbook)
  • Occasional projects or work not completed at school.

Snacks:

Students may bring a healthy snack to eat each day before or after running laps each morning. They are also encouraged to bring a water bottle, especially during the warmer months. The key word here is healthy (no chips, cookies, candy, etc.) and water (nothing but plain old water). 6th graders cannot concentrate on anything if they are hungry, so I also keep a stash of "emergency animal crackers" on hang if anyone forgets a snack and is starving. IF anyone wants to contribute to that stash, feel free.

State Test

State testing usually begins the last week of two of April and goes through mid-May. 6th grade takes one test a week, as to not overwhelm the students. I will let you know specific dates as they become available. It will reduce stress on your child to avoid absences during that time.
