Classroom Disclosure

Homework Responsibilities:

Students should read 20 minutes a day, at least five times a week.   Homework ill also include a weekly spelling list, reading fluency, and math review.  Homework will be sent home on Monday and should be returned, completed, by the following Monday.

Birthdays:

We will celebrate your student’s birthday in class. If your child’s birthday falls on a school day we will celebrate their birthday that day. If your child’s birthday falls on a holiday or a weekend, I will schedule a day to celebrate your child’s birthday while we are in school. I will also schedule summer birthdays.  (August birthdays at the beginning of the year and June/July birthdays at the end of the year.)  You may send in pencils, small toys, individually wrapped treats that are handed out at the end of the day, or other items that are in accordance with Bluff Ridge’s food policy.

School Supplies:

All of the items needed for school are provided by the school district with the exception of headphones/earbuds. Please DO NOT send personal supplies. Send the headphones/earbuds to school in a Ziploc baggie labeled with your student's name.  As a grade level, second grade teachers suggest the following items for an at-home school kit: pencils, erasers, dry erase markers (fine tip), one wide rule spiral writing notebook.

Wish List:

Items such as Kleenex, pencils, erasers, headphones, glue sticks, notebooks, zip-lock bags (all sizes), stickers, tie-dye kit (found at Walmart in the craft section), and trinkets for good behavior are always needed.

Volunteer Options:

Volunteers are welcome and deeply appreciated. You may sign up to help weekly, or for special occasions. Please schedule your time with the teacher if you are able to help in the classroom. When volunteering, you will be asked to help all the children.

Classroom Rules and Expectations:

Our class room has four rules:

  1. Follow directions
  2. Listen when others are speaking.
  3. Raise hand before speaking.
  4. Keep hands, feet and objects to self.

Each day, the students will be able to move a clip up or down their behavior tracker based on the the different choices they make. Everyone starts on green every morning.  Moving down the tracker (yellow, orange, then red) indicates a negative consequence. Yellow is a warning. Orange is Teacher's choice (think time, recess minutes, apologies). Red is Parent Contact (call and /or note home). Moving up the chart  (blue or purple) indicates positive consequences (eating lunch in the classroom, picking a prize out of the treasure box, assignment pass).  If there is a pattern of negative consequences, I will let you know.

We will also be participating in the school-wide behavior program.

 Student Guide

The Canvas Student Guide provides information and guidance related to all things Canvas! Below, you will find both the text and video versions of the Student Guide:

 Has Your Child Missed Class?

You may complete assignments online by accessing Canvas. I will not mark assignments late, so your students can make up the assignments that they missed when they were sick when they are feeling better.

About the Dibels Reading Test

The Dibels test is administered at the beginning of the year in September, in the middle of the year in January, and at the end of the year in May.  This helps us assess your student's reading fluency and determine interventions, if needed.
