HOME SICK TODAY.  WHAT CAN I WORK ON?

Much of what we do at school is done in small group instruction and rotating center activities.  Those are things I cannot replicate for learning at home.

THESE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU CAN WORK ON AT HOME:

  • Reading the decodable packets and other books. (The ones you do for nightly reading, but you could spend more than 10 minutes on them today).  Try spelling some words from the packet.
  • Snuggle up and have a grown up read aloud to you or listen to an audio book on Sora. Retell what happened in the story.
  • Free choice writing. Choose a topic.  Draw a picture.  Label the picture.  Write about it.  Make sure to encourage sound-spelling.
    • Topic Ideas: Tell me about your bedroom.  What does your backyard look like?  Write about someone who lives at your house.  Write about a pet.  Write about your favorite toys or game.  Write about your sick day.
  • Work on math facts. Adding and subtracting two numbers up to ten.  (2 + 4 =      10 – 3 =       3 + 6 =  )
  • Work on correctly writing numbers and letters if needed.
  • Other 1st Grade Skills You Could Work On:
    • Learning to tie shoes
    • Learning to tell time on an analog clock
    • Names of coins and counting money
    • Zipping and unzipping Ziploc bags 😊
    • Independently opening food packages (granola bars, fruit snacks, gogurts, etc.)
