Do's and Don'ts Page

DO’s

Set aside a special place to study away from family, friends', and distractions

Set a certain time to do school related work.

Establish a time to begin work.

Monitor the progress periodically example every 10 minutes to 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

If progress is not apparent at these time checks (Mark off-a given amount of time of work to be done by the next check time) use a timer or o'clock.

Make goals reasonable and stick by your requirements (Ex. snack time is when math is finished, you can watch TV if your spelling is done) BE CONSISTANT

Check each assignment completed look at a page in the book, not the number of problems, be sure each one has been done.  Check for the name and the heading on the paper.

Make sure you set aside a place to charge and keep all the cords and cables.

Make sure electronics are turned off and/or turned over to parents at a set time.

Call the teacher if you do not understand what is to be done.

Give positive supportive recognition for achievements let the student learn from their mistakes (mistakes is how we learn and become better, let your student make mistakes and learn when it’s easier to help them with the consequences.)

DON’T

Ask if they have homework – THEY WILL ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING   just establish a quiet time for schoolwork or recreational reading make it a habit or a goal

DON’T ask the student if she or she did their homework LOOK at it to be sure and keep informed.

DON’T accept his or her statement that he or she does not know what to do. He or She has demonstrated some knowledge of the assignment before taking it home.

DON’T reward for completed task until it is finished with quality

DON’T argue or compromise your expectations.

DON’T complain or be angry about school issues in front of your student. Most of the time frustrations inly make the students worries worse. Some School issues can’t be helped. We have to follow rules as well weather we like it or not.

How we cope with issues helps students to know how they should act in similar situations. We can use these as great learning opportunities.
