Need a reminder for this skill? You can re-watch this video. (Closed Captions are available on the video if you want them. Select the CC button to turn them on or off).

Directions:

  1. Go back to the McGraw-Hill anthology story "The Princess and the Pizza" Re-read pages 18 and 19 aloud.  As you read, think about your expression and volume.   Practice that skill as you read through those two pages. (Remember you can always practice more ).
  2. In the text box, briefly retell in either text or video/audio what your pages were about. Try to remember the story rather than using the story as a guide.
  3. Keep in mind the expression and accuracy rubric. Your goal is to get a 4.

Expression Rubric

  1. Reads in a quiet voice as if to get words out. The reading does not sound natural like talking to a friend.
  2. Reads in a quiet voice. The reading sounds natural in part of the text, but the reader does not always sound like they are talking to a friend.
  3. Reads with volume and expression. However, sometimes the reader slips into expressionless reading and does not sound like they are talking to a friend.
  4. Reads with varied volume and expression. The reader sounds like they are talking to a friend with their voice matching the interpretation of the passage.

Accuracy Rubric

  1.  Read with 6 or more errors
  2. Read with 4-5 errors
  3. Read with 2-3 errors
  4. Read with 0-1 errors
