Directions:
- Go back to the McGraw-Hill Readers/Writers shared story "The Big Race" and select a page to re-read aloud. As you do so, think about the phrasing fluency skill we are working on. Practice that skill as you read through your paragraph. (If you would like to practice more than a paragraph, you are welcome to do so).
- In the text box, briefly explain in either text or video/audio what your paragraph was about. Try to remember the story rather than using the story as a guide.
- Keep in mind the phrasing & accuracy rubric. Your goal is to get a 4.
Phrasing Rubric
- Reads in a monotone with little sense of boundaries; frequently reads word-by-word.
- Frequently reads in two- and three- word phrases, giving the impression of choppy reading; improper stress and intonation fail to mark ends of sentences and clauses.
- Reads with a mixture of run-ons, mid-sentence pauses for breath, and some choppiness, reasonable stress and intonation.
- Generally reads with good phrasing, mostly in clause and sentence units, with adequate attention to expression.
Accuracy Rubric
- Read with 6 or more errors
- Read with 4-5 errors
- Read with 2-3 errors
- Read with 0-1 errors
