Instructions:

  1. After selecting "submit assignment", explain how reading smoothly improves your fluency. You may either type your answer or respond via video/audio (use the record/upload media button Record.Upload Media Icon.JPG).  **Don't forget to submit your response!
  2. Read the passage below. Focus on using the skill that was discussed in the lesson. You will be practicing this skill all week and will record yourself reading this passage at the end of the week. Your teacher will be listening to see if you are using the skill in your reading.
  3. Keep in mind the smoothness & accuracy rubrics. Your goal is to get a 4.

Smoothness Rubric

  1. Makes frequent extended pauses, hesitations, false starts, sound-outs, repetitions, and/or multiple attempts.
  2. Experiences several "rough spots" in text where extended pauses or hesitations are more frequent and disruptive.
  3. Occasionally breaks smooth rhythm because of difficulties with specific words and/or structures.
  4. Generally reads smoothly with some breaks, but resolves word and structure difficulties quickly, usually through self-correction.

Accuracy Rubric

  1. Read with 6 or more errors
  2. Read with 4-5 errors
  3. Read with 2-3 errors
  4. Read with 0-1 errors
