🎯Objectives:

I can determine the meaning of words or phrases in grade-level text.
I can use synonyms to help me understand the meaning of new words.

Success Criteria:

I gave an example of each new vocabulary word.
I created a list of synonyms for each new vocabulary word.

Complete the vocabulary chart for both vocabulary words: scrounging and  trustworthy as well as logical and scornfully.

scrounging

Define: When someone is scrounging for something, he or she is trying to obtain or collect something with difficulty.

Example: Tina saw the cat scrounging through the overflowing trash can.

Ask: Describe what someone looks like scrounging through a backpack.

 

trustworthy

Kids helping each other climb a mountain

Define: To be trustworthy means to be reliable.

Example: When you are mountain climbing, it is good to have a trustworthy partner.

Ask: What is an antonym for trustworthy?

 

logical

Define: Something that is logical makes sense and is based on reason.

Example: On a multiple-choice test, the girl tried to figure out the most logical answers.

Ask: What is a logical way to arrange books?

Define: If you say or do something scornfully, you say it or do it in a way that shows dislike or that you are making fun.

Example: The mother spoke scornfully to her son about his bad study habits.

Ask: When might you speak scornfully?
