 Other early groups that inhabited Utah were the Anasazi and Fremont People.  In this lesson you will be watching a short video and reading an article to assist you learning about the areas in Utah where they lived, and the innovative ways they found  to survive in the harsh Utah climate.

  1. Watch the video below to see where the Anasazi and Fremont people lived, and learn how they survived by making homes and providing food for their families.

  2. Read the article from Newsela titled "Native American History:  The Anasazi are gone but their cliff cities remain."
  3. After reading the article answer the questions below.

Questions: Answer the following questions using the text entry box.  

  1. In 2-3 sentences explain how the Anasazi cliff dwellings were designed.  Why do you think they were built this way?
  2. In your opinion, do you think that the Anasazi people were creative and innovative in their everyday lives?   What things did they do, or not do, that makes you feel this way?
  3. The article tells us that in their dwellings the Anasazi people only had one exit.  Why do you think they did this?  Do you think it was a good idea, why or why not?
  4. Would you consider these cliff cities to be permanent or temporary shelters?  Justify your response.
