As a citizen of Utah and the United States of America there are several rights and responsibilities you have and must uphold to be a good contributing member of your society.  Today you will be learning about the difference between a "right" and a "responsibility" and will be able to identify what your rights and responsibilities are.

  1. Read the article from Newsela titled "Americans Have Rights and Responsibilities." 
  2. After reading the article answer the questions below using a text box.

Questions:

  1. In 2-3 complete sentences, explain what the difference is between a right and a responsibility. 
  2. The article clearly states the rights that each U.S. citizen has.  Which right or rights do you feel are the most important?  Why do you feel that this/these rights are the most important?
  3. In 2-3 complete sentences, explain why you think it is important to have responsibilities as a U.S. citizen.
