I will learn about "The Great Depression" that occured after World War I in the 1930s.  I will learn how it not only impacted the American people, but I will also learn how Utah and its people suffered because of it.

A major event in Utah History was the Great Depression of the 1930s. Today you will be learning about what caused The Great Depression so you can better understand how this war impacted the people of Utah and the industry in the state.

2.  Read the article from Newsela titled "The Many Causes of The Great Depression." 

3.  After reading the article answer the questions below in complete sentences using a text box.

Questions:

  1. In 2-3 sentences, describe what The Great Depression was. 
  2. How long did The Great Depression last?
  3. In 2-3 sentences describe some of the impacts that The Great Depression had on the American people. 
  4. In 1932 how many Americans were out of work?
  5. Explain why many people believed that this was the end of the American way of life.  
  6. What was the New Deal and how did it help the citizens of America?
  7.  Writing Activity:  Cause & Effect: What was the main event described in the article? What were the causes of this event? Describe each cause by citing specific details from the article and explaining how it contributed to the main event
