Parent Resources

If you would like to schedule an appointment with me to discuss your students progress, please click the request appointment button. I have an open door policy and would be more than willing to sit down and go over any concerns.

One of the best ways you can help your student is to create a Parent Canvas account. If you do not have an account please click on the button below to set up your account. If your students turns in their assignment on time the canvas system if you click into that assignment will show you if the assignment has been submitted. You will be able to monitor your students scores and read the feedback that I have left them on Assignments, Final Projects/Test and Quizzes.

Grades- The task that students complete in the class will go under one of the weighted categories 70% of the grade will be based off the students Final Projects/Final Labs/Final Tests, 20% of the grade will be quizzes, and 10% of the grade will be assignments. Students will be given 3 attempts on all tasks to improve the score. If after the 3 attempts students need an additional try they will need to schedule an appointment with me to go over the feedback and they may be given additional task to help ensure the students understand the concept. Once they have completed the required tasks students will be given an additional attempt.

Rubrics- All tasks will be graded using the assigned rubric that is tied to the DESK Standards, Cross Cutting Concepts, or Science & Engineering Practices, please review the rubric and feedback with your students prior to them submitting an additional attempts to make sure they have achieved the desired score.  Bu reviewing the feedback with the students this will help your student improve their score and not become frustrated because of multiple submissions.

Missing/Late Assignments- If you student does not turn in an assignment the canvas system will automatically turn the assignment to a 0. The 0 will remain on your students grade until the assignment is submitted and graded. I will due my best to have all assignments graded within 4 days of submission for ontime assignment and 8 days for late work.

Grade updates- The systems is set to upload grades and score changes to MyDSD every night, however if I have not graded the work the system will still tell you I have updated grades when there is a change that I did not get the grading that day.

Citizenship grades- Students will receive a weekly citizenship grade that will be based off the school rubric for this grade. The citizenship will be averaged out at the end of the term to determine the final citizenship ranking. This score will not affect the students academic score.

Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to be Responsible, Respectful, and focused in class. If a student has a consistent behavoir in class and email will be sent to your student and parents. My hope in sending the email to your students is that if there was a concern they will come home and discuss this with you prior to you having to discuss the behavior with them. It is my hope that students will take ownership of their conduct in class and will have a solution for the behavior prior to your discussion with them. Cl

Class fines- students are expect to follow all safety rules on the DSD Safety guidelines, if lab is broken due to the students conduct the student will be responsible for replacing the equipment.  All students were given a folder with the first units content and a lab book, the students need to bring these items to class everyday. If the students losses their folder or damages the folder they will be responsible for getting a replacement. A $1.00 fee will be charged for replacing the material.
