Class Disclosure

Mrs. Richardson’s

Class Disclosure

Welcome to Second Grade!! This is going to be a wonderful year!   I’m excited to get to know each of you.

BEHAVIOR

We will be using a points system in our class this year.  Students will receive points throughout the day when they are following our class rules.  Students may also lose points if they arent following the rules. Students will be able to use their points to purchase fun coupons and small items (pencils, erasers, stickers) at our class store.

CLASS RULES

Positive Rewards for following rules:

  • Student will receive points to spend in our classroom store.
  • Student will earn the respect of others.
  • Students will learn in a safe and positive environment.

Consequences for not following rules:

  • Verbal Warning.  Student is reminded of rules and expected behavior.
  • Lose a point.
  • Reflection Desk.  Student will fill out a Reflection form and discuss behavior with the teacher.  Parents will be notified.
  • If the behavior persists beyond this point the student will be referred to the principal.

CANVAS

We will use Canvas to help us with our assignments each day.  Not every assignment will be on Canvas, but many will.  I want students to feel comfortable completing all kinds of assignments in many different ways.

SEESAW

Another way I will communicate with you is through Seesaw.  I love to send pictures and videos to you of what we are doing in class.  You can like the pictures and make comments if you’d like.  Students can also see these and really love being able to take part in this.  You will need to download the Seesaw Family app.  I will send you information on how to connect with our class.

ATTENDANCE

If students are sick, they should stay home.  I will help them make up the work they missed, and they can check Canvas for missed work as well.

Please let me know if you will have an extended vacation.  I will collect work students miss in class to be completed when they return.  I cannot send lessons plans or extended work prior to the absence.

Students may access ST Math, and McGraw Hill from home.  These programs offer skills practice at the students’ levels.  Students may work on these programs if desired.

NEWSLETTER

A weekly newsletter will be emailed every Friday.  It will include important class information, upcoming events, and our spelling and vocabulary words for the following week.

SPELLING WORDS:  Spelling will look a little different than it has in the past.  It will along with our phonics routines that we complete in class each day.  When we finish learning various patterns, we will take a short quiz on them.  students will not be given the words ahead of time because I want to ensure that they are connecting the patterns we practice into their writing.

VOCABULARY WORDS:  Each week we will be learning new vocabulary words that are found in our Language Arts texts.

BIRTHDAYS

We love to celebrate birthdays in our class!  On the students birthday (or half birthday if it falls in the summer) he/she will receive a small item from the teacher and the student will be able to choose a Go Noodle song for the whole class to do.

If you would like to send a birthday treat, we will share this at the end of the school day.  Please send prepackaged items that can be handed out quickly.  Please do not send balloons, treat bags, or cake and ice cream.

It is school policy that birthday party invitations may be passed out in the classroom only if EVERY student is invited.

I look forward to working with you and your child.  Together we can make this school year a great learning experience!
