Homework Policy

Mrs. Puente's Homework Policy

It is my belief that students will make the most out of their time at school if they aren’t also having to do large amounts of homework at home. Fourth grade is a transitional grade where students are learning to be more independent. To promote personal responsibility and choice, students will be given a “menu” of in school activities that are designed to deepen their understanding of key concepts taught at school that will solidify or supplement what they are already learning. Students have a certain number of activities that they are required to do, but may do more than what is required.

In addition we will have several projects throughout the year that will require homework but this will not be an everyday occurrence.

Educational studies have repeatedly found that the most important activity a student can do outside of school is to read. To encourage this, students will be asked to read 30 minutes outside of school on at least 5 out of 7 days. Students will record the amount of time read on a calendar in their Class Notebook and will be rewarded monthly for achieving this goal.
