Missing Work
You and your student can access your mydsd account anytime and see if you/they have missing assignments. Assignments/grades are updated weekly on Thursdays.
In the event that your child has missed class due to illness or other circumstances, some of the assignments can be accessed through CANVAS. The students are responsible to find out what they missed.
At Home Reading/40 Book Challenge
Students need to be reading 30 minutes a night at least 5 days a week. This year we are going to be doing a 40 book Challenge for the year.
All 6th graders will be challenged to read 40 books this year. That breaks down to about one book per week. You're right if you think that this is a very big and challenging goal for 6th graders! Remember, students are expected to read every night for 30 minutes or more. If students consistently read for 30 minutes or more per night, this goal is very attainable!
Guidelines for the 40 Book Challenge:
- Students should choose which books they want to read.
- Books that are over 300 pages count as 2 books.
- Try to broaden the range of different genres (types) of books that you read. Students are expected to read at least 2 poetry, 2 traditional literature, 2 Science fiction, 2 mystery, 2 historical fiction, 3 fantasy, 3 autobiography, biography, or memoir, 4 realistic fiction, 7 informational books, and 13 of their choice.
We will have a celebration at the end of the year to celebrate how many books our class read and a little something extra for those who meet the challenge! I want the students to read and enjoy it!!
Birthday Celebrations
If your student would like to bring a birthday treat to share with the class they can. The treat will need to be store bought and individually wrapped.
