United States History II addresses the making of modern America, highlighting the events and issues in United States history from the late Industrial Revolution to modern times. Topics include, but are not limited to, the Industrial Revolution, the Progressive movement, imperialism and foreign affairs, the World Wars, the Great Depression, the Cold War, the civil rights movements, the rise of terrorism, and modern social and political history.
In this class, you will learn the various skills used in historical inquiry and will actively participate in building knowledge about American History. Emphasis will be placed on the following skills:
- Developing a question for further research
- Researching a question
- Analyzing information discovered during your research
- Evaluating and reflecting on that information
- Developing a thesis about the subject/question you've researched
- Communicating your findings
Please note that your grade will be based on your ability to master and employ these skills. To that end, all class work, activities, and materials will be based around giving you opportunities to practice and master these important skills. In order to be successful in this class, your active participation and buy-in into the process is required.
