Ya I probably said that
"My teacher said I don't have any homework"
Yes - that is true. I do not assign homework outside of the classroom work. The reason for this is the research overwhelmingly shows that there is no benefit to additional homework in elementary school. I plan intense learning activities every day for the students, and expect them to work hard from the first bell to the last. Once they get home, they should play, have fun, connect with family, help out around the house, and do kid things. Then they can come to school the next day ready to learn.
"My teacher said nope- ask me again"
Yes this is one of the 'games' I played with my own children when we were in the store and they would beg for candy. It works like this:
Kid: can I have candy?
Me: nope ask me again.
Kid: can I have candy?
Me: nope ask me again.
You get the idea. I have adapted it for the classroom for times when students ask for things that are just not gonna happen. Questions like "can we have a movie party all day" or "can I not do this assignment" or similar questions.
"My teacher said if there is oatmeal on my pillow my brain is leaking out."
Yes, I tell the kids that if they play too many video games their brain will get mushy and it might leak out during the night so be careful.
