Building Background and Skills

Let's review some literary terms to prepare for a creepy story!

• Inferring: using clues and background knowledge to get a deeper understanding 
• Unreliable narrator: a narrator that the reader cannot trust 

Types of irony:

• Situational irony: The opposite of what we would expect to happen
• Verbal irony: Saying the opposite of what you mean (sarcasm)
• Dramatic Irony: The reader or audience knows something a character does not

Pay close attention to irony in the story! You will be writing a response about the use of irony.
