All students will be required to wear the regulation PE uniform, which consists of: a grey PE t-shirt, grey/red  PE shorts, socks, and non-marking gym shoes.  (Laces must be tied securely on the outside of the shoe.) Flip-flops, moccasins, crocs, and slip-on shoes are not acceptable.  Shorts are to be worn at the natural waist.  Uniforms will be sold in the main office for $10.00/set.  If you are unable to purchase a uniform by the first dress day, please talk with your instructor, in advance, so that other arrangements can be made.  Please put your initials in the tags of your clothes to help identify lost items.

GRADING

Two grades are earned in P.E.  One grade is earned for academic achievement and the other for citizenship.  These grades will be based on the following areas:

Academic Achievement

Standards-Based Grading will be used to calculate academic grades. Grades will be based on a student’s level of understanding of the DESK standards provided by the Davis School District. The results of assessments will be based on a 1-4 grading rubric:

       ( 3)

          (4)

Citizenship

Bullying and swearing will not be tolerated and may result in a U for citizenship. In addition to behavior, attitude and sportsmanship, this grade is affected by tardies and nondresses.  A nondress is given if the student refuses to dress and DOES NOT have a parental note excusing him/her from participation.  (Students, who forget their clothes, may borrow clean clothes from the instructor, provided they make arrangements during the first few minutes of dress time).  In order to receive an “H” for citizenship, the student must dress every day.  Nondresses and tardies affect the citizenship grade as follows:

1st- student earns an S

2nd- student earns an S (note sent home)

3rd- student earns an N (call parent & see administrator)

4th- students earns a U (put on contract)

*Students must be inside the double doors in the physical education hall when the tardy bell stops ringing to avoid being marked tardy. Roll call will be taken in the gym 5 minutes after the tardy bell. At the end of class, students must remain in the gym, locker room or PE hallway until the bell rings. Students that leave class without permission will earn a U for citizenship.

COVID- Hand sanitizer will be provided for student use before and after class. Students unable to attend class due to covid will be excused.

ABSENCE MAKE-UP

Absences may be made-up by doing 1 hour of physical activity.  Once you have completed the physical activity, go to the Absence Make-up module on canvas and enter what you did, how long you did it, your name and your period.

NOTE TO PARENT:

Physical Education is an activity-type class: hence, it is important for students to be regular in their attendance and participation.  If for some reason, your student is unable to participate in class, please send a note indicating the nature of the problem and the number of days he/she will be unable to participate.  Excused students will be given a written assignment to complete in class to earn their participation points.  If the student is unable to participate for more than three consecutive days, a written note from a doctor will be required.
