What Is Computer Science?

Computer science is the study of computers and how they work.  Our lessons are organized into the following strands:

  • Hardware (the parts of a computer and what they do) and Software (the instructions that computers need to do do things)
  • Data:  how computers process and store information
  • Algorithms the step-by-step instructions that computers follow
  • Networks & Internet:  how computers are connected and work together
  • Digital Citizenship:  our responsibilities as citizens of a digital world

We will also spend time learning and practicing good keyboarding technique.

Why do I need to know computer science?

Computers are all around us and play an important role in our daily life.  The more you know about them, the more you will understand the world around you.  Learning computer science gives you the power to make smart decisions about how you use technology in your life.
