Welcome Back to School!
Mrs. Sheppard, Mr. Bovey, and Mrs. Richards are excited to be on your education team this year.
Together, we CAN do HARD things!!!😁😆😃👍
Hi everyone!
My name is Lara Richards', and I am the Applied English teacher at Millcreek Junior High. This will be my second year at Millcreek; prior to that I taught at Hannah Holbrook Elementary as the resource teacher for four years and have previous experience as a rehabilitation counselor. I am the mom to five wonderful children, two sons-in-law, and the best husband a girl could ask for. I love to spend time with my family at the lake, boating, riding wave runners or simply reading a book on the beach. My happy places are Logan, Bear Lake, Jenny Lake in the Tetons and Kailua, Oahu. I have three degrees from Utah State University; a bachelor's degree in Family, Consumer and Human Development, a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and in 2022 graduated with a second bachelor's degree in special education with a Mild/Moderate Endorsement. I love USU, once an Aggie, always an Aggie! I have lived in Bountiful for the past ten years, love it and have no plans to leave anytime soon.
I love working at Millcreek! Three of my own children have either attended or currently attend Millcreek and the faculty and staff are amazing! I have high expectations for my students in the classroom. Students have time to complete assignments and assessments during class, but students will be expected to complete any unfinished work if missed due to absenteeism. They will be awarded full credit if the work is completed before the end of any given term, and/or as dictated by an IEP. If there is a pattern of academic struggle at school, the special education team will assess to determine if more/less/adjusted accommodations are needed. I expect students to be attentive, respectful, and engaged regardless of the setting he or she is learning. Student progress will be measured with monitoring, observations, assignments and assessment. Accommodations, as dictated by the IEP and as dictated by best-teacher-practice, will always be available, including, when permitted, during testing (NOTE: some accommodations are not permitted with some formalized testing).
I am thrilled to have your child in my classroom and look forward to meeting you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you wish to make an appointment; I am a firm believer that communication is key to all students' success. It's going to be a great year! GO MUSTANGS!
Best,
Lara Richards
