🌎Activity #3: Lakes of Utah

Learning Objective

I will know what a lake is and how it is formed.  I will understand the importance of lakes in a community and identify the  major lakes found in Utah.

Assignment

Understanding the physical features and natural resources that surround you in your environment is extremely important.  In today's lesson you will be learning about the lakes that are found in Utah and the impact they can have on the people who live in the state.  You will also be identifying the major lakes found in Utah and placing them on your Interactive Map of Utah.  

Guidelines

1. Read the article from A-Z animals titled "Lakes." Links to an external site.
2. Only read to where it starts naming the 5 famous lakes.  
3. After reading the article answer the questions below.
4. Access the following website to locate the following lakes to add to your Utah Interactive Map: Bear Lake, Great Salt Lake, Utah Lake, Flaming Gorge, Sevier Lake and Lake Powell. geology.com/lakes-rivers-water/utah.shtml#google_vignette Links to an external site.
5. Make sure that you clearly label the lakes on your interactive map and that you add a symbol for the lakes in your map key. 

Questions: Answer the following questions using the text entry box.  

1. In 2-3 complete sentences, explain why most of the Earth's fresh water cannot be used.
2. List two different ways lakes can form.
3. Where does the water in lakes come from?
4. What is unique about the Great Salt Lake? 
5. Identify three reasons why lakes are important to plants, animals and humans.  
6. In 2-3 complete sentences, explain the role humans can play in harming lakes. Include at least one idea on how we can correct the problem.
