ASSIGNMENT
"If you went to school in Utah in the 1860's and 1870's, you may have studied the DESERET ALPHABET. It was developed to teach the Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) a phonetic or sound alphabet. It especially helped foreign-speaking converts to read English more easily. The alphabet had a symbol for each sound. There were 38 symbols. It cost so much to print books in the new alphabet that Utahans soon stopped using it."
Your assignment today will be to try using the DESERET ALPHABET by decoding some words and phrases and writing some words and phrases. Have fun!
