Learning Objective
I will learn about the telegraph and how it changed communication across our nation.
Assignment
In 1861 the telegraph line was extended across the country and made it possible to send news and messages quickly from one place to another. Messages were sent by tapping out letters on a telegraph key. The letters were tapped out in Morse Code.
Watch the video below to learn how the invention of the telegraph changed the way people communicated in early Utah and across the nation. After watching the video, complete the Morse Code activities.
Guidelines
- Get your coding skills and pencils ready! You will be coding a message in Morse Code, the same code used to communicate over the telegraph lines.
- Use the guide below to write your first and last name in Morse code on Monday and then write a short sentence for a friend to decode on Thursday.
- Share your message with your classmates.
