College and Career Awareness (Elmore) Disclosure

Course Description:

Overview: This course is divided up into 4 different terms. Each term introduces the student to a specific group of learning targets that include exploring college and other post-high school options. Students are exposed to all of the career clusters within the state of Utah and offered hands-on experiences to learn key ideas and concepts for the career clusters and college opportunities. Students also participate in an assessment that helps them identify their key interests and aptitudes and connects those to potential careers that match.
Objectives and Goals: By the end of this course, students will be able to:

Materials Needed: School issued computer, a pen or pencil, and loose-leaf paper.

Textbooks and Resources: Project-based learning and other materials will all be found in the canvas course. It is possible students will watch portions of the following movies to identify various careers or relevant lessons: Monster’s Inc (and sequels), Toy Story (and Sequels), Inside Out (and Sequels), The Little Mermaid, A Bug’s Life, Up, and Wall-E.

Policies:

Weighting of Assignments: Assignments are based on points and are valued based on desired weight. The higher a point value is assigned, the greater the weight is for that assignment.
Classroom Rules and Expectations: Respect the school, school property and electronics, teachers and administrators, and your fellow classmates. Most importantly, respect yourself.

Behavior Expectations: Respectful behavior towards peers and the teacher, active participation, and adherence to school and classroom rules.
Attendance Policy: Regular attendance is crucial. Students are expected to be seated before the tardy bell rings. Anticipated absences should be communicated in advance. Students are responsible for catching up on missed work.

The CCA standards specifically focus on student’s ability to regularly attend class without absences or tardiness. (This focuses on things that are not excused by parents. (Strand 2: Standard 2)

Homework and Late Work: All work should be submitted on time. Once an assignment is late, students will be deducted 1% point (one percentage point) per day the assignment is late until it is turned in. All late work should be submitted one week prior to the processing of mid-term or term grade.

The CCA standards specifically focus on student’s ability to submit their work on time. (Strand 2: Standard 2)

Cellular phones and other electronic devices: This class will act in accordance to the school rules and policy regarding cellular devices.

Unit 4: Marketing Career Cluster
Unit 5: Arts, Audio/Visual Technology & Communication Career Cluster
Important Projects or Events: Hill AFB field trip, Catalyst Center field trip, Career Day, Career research project, College Research Project.

Academic Integrity:

Plagiarism and Cheating: Plagiarism and cheating (including the use of Artificial Intelligence apps) are serious offenses. Any student caught engaging in such activities will receive an opportunity to complete original work, parent consultation or may face further classroom disciplinary actions.

Support and Resources:

Extra Help: The “FLEX” period will be available for students to receive extra help or have a chance to complete missing assignments.
Special Accommodations: All existing information regarding any special accommodation has been reviewed and will be implemented by the teacher. Students requiring special accommodation should contact me, the school administration, or their case manager to discuss their needs.

Communication:

Parent-Teacher Communication: Parents can communicate with me via email and expect updates on their child’s progress during parent-teacher conferences and through weekly updates on myDSD.
Student-Teacher Communication: Students are encouraged to ask questions during class and seek help during class hours, flex time, or via email.
