- Today is World Red Cross Day!
- Originally Red Cross Day, this day is now known as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. It is celebrated on May 8 each year as this is the birthday of the founder of the Red Cross, Henry Dunant, who was also the recipient of the first ever Nobel Peace Prize. To celebrate, some will donate blood, others may attend programs that honor local heroes such as those in law enforcement, the military, or fire and rescue. Who is a local hero you think should be recognized today? Why?
