Objective

I can develop and use a scale model of the matter in the Earth’s interior to demonstrate how differences in density and chemical composition (silicon, oxygen, iron, and magnesium) cause the formation of the crust, mantle, and core.

 Task

When was the last time you had a root beer float?  Why does the ice cream float?

Instructions:

1.  In the assignment Links to an external site., read the introduction on the structure of the Earth. Then, answer the analysis questions about the structure of the Earth and its relationship with density.
2.  Watch the video titled What Would a Journey to the Earth's Core Be Like? Links to an external site. and create analogies about the distance to the center of the earth.
3. Afterwards, write a hypothesis about the relationship between earth's layers and density.
4. Once completed, click submit.
