Unit 1 Project Introduction (Motivational Video)

Unit 1 Project

The Rundown:

As described in the videos above, you are to complete a roughly 1 minute long video, start to finish, focusing on applying your skills of creativity and composition. You will be led through upcoming lessons on storyboarding (a form of planning video shots), filming tips, media file management, and how to edit. These lessons will help you accomplish your project, so please follow along with the videos as you tackle your vision.

The Instruction:

The following videos are examples of what a "motivational video" might look like. Yours will look different, of course, but these should provide you both some understanding and vision for your own efforts. You can also find examples of past student projects here. Links to an external site.

Choosing an Audio:

Before beginning your project, you must choose the audio you plan to make your video for. You can find example of available audio in this google drive folder Links to an external site.. Or this OneDrive Folder from Mrs. Stokes Links to an external site.. Select one and download it before moving on.

If you have a different audio you want to use for this project, you must first ask the teacher for permission and help accessing the audio, if applicative.

The Requirements:

As you create your project, your video is required to include the following:

  • Roughly 60 seconds of footage (+/- 20 seconds, depending on your starting audio).
  • 10 or more well composed shots which demonstrate creativity, planning, and connection to your audio.
  • At least 10 different compositional principles used throughout your video. (Note: During editing, you will be required to label each shot in your final video with which composition technique was used in filming it).
  • A complete, well-thought storyboard (discussed next lesson).
  • Clean, functional editing featuring appropriate cuts, transitional effects, and specs shown you at a later time.
  • Your video submitted to an appropriate file sharing service, such as Google Drive, to be turned in to the instructor.

Though I am showing you these requirements now, you do not need to do them all at this very moment. Rather, each of the assignments following this page will walk you through these requirements piece by piece. Your job for now is to choose a piece of audio, an idea for your video, and to then move on to the next page for step 1 - pre-production.
