The Rundown:
Green Screen (and Blue Screen) is a special effects frequently used in Hollywood to remove the background from a subject. By removing a background, we can cleanly put something else, such as a video or picture, behind in its place.
To effectively green/blue screen though, we need to use effective lighting techniques. Today, you will learn about those techniques as well as how to remove a green screen from the background through an effect called "Chroma Key".
The Instruction:
Watch the following video on how to both light a green screen and how to remove a green screen in editing:
The Requirements:
Use our classroom green screen to put you or someone else against a edited background. To do so, follow these steps:
- Watch Steps 1-5 in the video above before filming.
- Plan out what you want to film, including the background you'll use before filming. The backgrounds available to you can either be found on this Google Drive link or at any of the following:
- Film your shot(s), making sure to evenly light both the background and your subject. Be sure to place film lights in a way that matches your intended background/final video.
- Watch Step 6 in the video above, following along to edit out the background from your own video clip.
- Download your background, if you haven't already, and place it behind your subject. (Note: if you don't know how to do this, simply place the background layer underneath the video of you in the timeline).
Upload your finished video, making sure to not make the video longer than you need, to Google Drive and submit the shareable link on Canvas.
