The Rundown:
Now that you know how to create basic audio using foley, dialogue, background sounds, and music... You need an opportunity to use these things creatively in a project of your choice. As such, at your choice, you are going to create one of the following three project options:
- A 30 Second Commercial (This is the recommended option)
- A 45-60 Second Movie Trailer
- A 45-65 Second Scene (with actors and a story) or Short Film
The Requirements:
Your project, whichever you choose, can be comedic, serious, or whatever you would like it to be stylistically. However, even if your video is comedic, the quality of your video techniques should be thought out and well done.
To get the best quality out of your story, use the following three types of shots in your video:
Establishing Shot:
An establishing shot is an extreme wide shot used at the beginning of the scene. It is used to set the context of where and even when something is taking place. Typically, this type is used in film, but we will incorporate into into our commercials this time as well.
Master Shot:
The Master Shot gives a context to our main characters, their relation to eachother, and their relation to any objects of importance. They're typically anywhere from a medium to a full shot, and they are frequently used during a scene or edit to help the audience see the most important things taking place at once.
Insert Shot:
The Insert Shot is typically a close-up on an item or person of importance. This shot gives us extra information on or a better look at something, such as an object being handled, the perspective of the main character, or something which is small enough to warrant a close-up to see sufficient detail. These shots are used when an item is important to the story/video, such as a key item in a story or the product featured in a commercial.
The Requirements:
Whatever style of video you make, you will be required to include the following:
- At least one establishing shot; at least one master shot; and at least one insert shot.
- Your commercial's audio must be recorded using our audio gear (meaning more than just the mics built into the camera)
- Your audio should include some amount of foley (or sound effects), music, ambient sound, and dialogue.
- Use some form of professional lighting, planned cinematography, and quality editing.
Once completed, turn in your project as Google Drive link to this assignment.
